Go West 에 이런 복잡한 역사와 의미가 있었는지는 

몰랐었는데 알고 나니 ....

 

처음에 이 노래를 들을때는 무언가 서부개척시대에 

마차를 몰고 희망을 찾아 떠나는 49er들이 연상되었

었는데.. 

 

원곡이 YMCA로 유명한 Village People 의 곡이었고

YMCA가 동성애자들의 Anthem 이라는 사실처럼 이

곡 역시 동성애자들의 천국이라는 San Francisco로

떠나자는 내용이었다고 함..그들의 댄스무브가 너무나

자연스러워서 전원 Gay로 생각하기 쉽지만 해군복장

과 폭주족 복장을 한 멤버는 Straight 라고 함. 

 

후에 Pet Shop Boys의 곡은 MV 속엔 무언가 전체주

의적이고 디스토피아 적인 분위기를 풍기는데 제작 뒷

이야기가 재미있는데 만들다보니 소비에트연방의 국

가와 비슷해져버렸다고 한다. 그래서 인류 최초우주비

행사 소련인 유리가가린의 동상이라던가 붉은 별, 붉은 

깃발을 집어넣다보니.. 마치 동구유럽세계가 서구유럽

처럼 자유를 찾아가자라는 노래처럼 되고 말았다는.. 

 

1984년에 사용된 소비에트연방의 국가를 들어보자..의외

로 비슷한 구석이 많다.
