Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind가 

10년 이라는 세월을 넘어 재 개봉되었다고 한다. 영화 속 

주인공의 이름은 우리가 잘 아는 민요속 인물이랑 이름이 

같다. 영화에서 주인공 Clementine은 미국 전통민요 속 

인물이고 Joel 은 성경상 요엘 선지자의 이름 따서 지은 

이름이다. 

다음은 기차에서 클레멘타인과 조얼이 만나는 장면의

대화이다.

Clementine : My Name is Clementine, by the way

               내 이름은 클레멘타인이에요. 어쨋든

Joel         : I'm Joel

               난 조얼이라고 해요

Clementine : Hi Joel

               안녕 조얼

Joel         : Hey

               안녕하세요

Clementine : No Jokes about my name

               Oh. no. you wouldn't do that

               You're trying to be nice

               내 이름갖고 놀리지 말아요

               오..이런 당신 안 그럴꺼군요

               당신 좋은 사람인척 하려고 애쓰고 있군요

Joel         : I don't know any jokes about your name

               난 당신이름에 관한 우스개소리를 아는 게 없어요

Clementine : Huckleberry hound

               허클베리 하운드.있잖아요

Joel         : I don't know what that means

               난 그게 뭔 뜻인지 모르겠는데..

Clementine : Huckleberry hound ?

               What are you , nuts?

               허클베리 하운드를 모른다고요?

               당신 뭐야.멍청인가?

Joel         : It's been suggested.

               누군가에 의해 그런 소리를 들었긴 하죠

Clementine : Oh My darling Oh My Darling

               Oh My Darling Clementine

               오 마이 달링 오 마이 달링

               오 마이 달링 클레멘타인

보통 극중 주인공 클레멘타인이 자신의 이름을 이야기

하면 사람들의 첫 반응은 아마 클레멘타인 노래를 부를 

것이다. 그리고 그것은 아마도 클레멘타인을 짜증나게 

하기도 하지만 모르는 사람과의 만남에서 자연스런 아

이스브레이킹을 유도할 것이다. 아마 클레멘타인은 영

화 속에서 조얼과 자연스럽게 자신의 이름으로 아이스

브레이킹을 시도한다. 그런데 이 망할 놈의 남자가 유머

감각이 제로다. 마치 성직자 혹은 멍청인가.. 남들 다 아

는 허클베리 하운드도 모른단다.. 그래서 직접 노래까지 

부른다..

Huckleberry hound

Huckleberry hound 는 애니메이션 캐릭터,, 애니메이션이

시작될때 클레멘타인 민요가 연주되면서 시작됨. 그래서

클레멘타인은 자신의 이름으로 조크가 가능하다는 걸 알려

주고 있음. 하지만 조얼은 Huckleberry hound 를 모른다고

말하고 있다. 

한때 민요였다가 동요로 자장가로 쓰이는 클레멘타인..하

지만 내용은 슬프고 슬프다. 아이들이 무슨 말인지 모르고 

잠이 들지. 그 내용을 아는 애들은 아마 슬퍼서 잠을 이룰 

수 없지 않을까? 그러고보면 동화도 그렇고 동요도 그렇고 

알고보면 슬픈 내용투성이다. 왜 그런걸까?
