Lady Marmalade

  마멀라이드라는 것은 완전히 과일의 흔적이 없을 정도로 

스프레드하기 좋게 만든 잼과는 달리 과일의 씹는 맛을 살

린 과일설탕조림이라고 보면될 듯.. 특히 신 오렌지의 껍질

까지 다 집어 넣어 만들어 달면서 신맛과 과육의 씹는 맛을

잘 살린 보존 식품이다. 그런데 그 마멀라이드 앞에 Lady를

붙였다는 것은 그런 특성을 가진 여성을 지칭하는 말이라고

보면 된다. 달콤하면서 신맛과 과일맛이 느껴지면서 과육처

럼 탱글탱글한 몸을 가진 가장 중요한 것은 자신만을 위해 

키핑해둘 수 있는 여성이라고 보면 될 듯하다. 특히 과일의

색이 다양한 것처럼 유색인종 여성들 에게 더 많이 사용되

는 슬랭인 듯..

 

이 곡이 영화 물랑 루즈( 불어 뜻 " 빨간 방아간 )의 삽입곡으로 

쓰였고 뮤직비디오에서도 전하는 느낌을 가사없이도 느낄 수 있

지만  이 곡의 원 작곡자인 Bob Crowe의 뉴올린즈에서의 경험

에서 나온 곡이라고 하며.. Lady Marmalade 라고 불리우는 뉴 

올린즈 지역의 성 노동자 ( = Whore ) 와의 만남을 갖는 Joe라는 

남성의 이야기를 다루고 있다.. 그래서 분위기는 역시 그런 분위

기가 넘실거린다..

특히 프랑스 말로 쓰여진 가사는 사실 자유분방한 미국에서도 대

놓고 영어로 노래하기엔 너무 센가사라고 할까.." 너 오늘 밤 나랑

자기 원하니 ? " 라는 뜻.. 최근 팝송에서도 불어가 나오는 경우가

많은데 유식함을 자랑하기 위한 허세가 아니라면 주로 영어로 쓰

기 좀 민망한 경우에 많이 쓰이곤 한다.
